Mimesis – Final Graduation Project

Fashion Design Graduation Project, 2021

Mimesis is a conceptual collection inspired by biomimicry. It dives into the universe of beetles, a vast and intricate world of small creatures that are endlessly mimicked. From the morphology and protective structures of coleopterans, the project translates the idea of clothing as a second skin and a layer of protection into womenswear.

The looks were shaped by the colors, forms and textures found across different species of the Coleoptera order. Silhouettes, materials and textile mockups were developed to reinterpret these visual references.

The volumetry of the pieces explores rounded and segmented forms that evoke elytra and limbs, while the body fitted constructions reflect the concept of clothing as an extension of the skin.

Hairs, micro perforations, ridges, luminescence and tubercles observed in beetles informed the choice of textile mockups and materials. These characteristics were represented through predominantly synthetic fabrics such as vinyl, NP plastic, Performing Air and stretch tulle.
